ENROLLMENT FOR 2012 -2013 (East & West)
Thursday, May 31 is the last day for the discounted 2012-2013 Curriculum fee of $375. A non-refundable reservation payment of $50.00 per child is required in order to enroll or re-enroll students for the coming year. This will be applied towards the Curriculum Fee. Please include an Application for Enrollment with your $50 payment. This form can be printed from our web site www.lutheranunity.com or obtained from the school office. 

Enrollment by May 31st, 2012 – $375.00 / Student
Enrollment on/after June 1st, 2012 – $400.00 / Student
Pre-K Curriculum $225.00 / student is a fixed fee. 

Financial aid papers for next year will be available on the web page and will be accepted after the $50 re-enrollment or new enrollment payment has been received. Curriculum Fees include, but are not limited to: textbooks, workbooks and other instructional materials, classroom supplies, student planners, student periodicals, technology fees, athletic fees, student insurance, art supplies, standardized testing and contracted educational services.

FACULTY NEWS (East & West)
Mrs. Betty Gyllstrom will be retiring at the end of the 2011-2012 school year.  
Mr. Christopher Lingel will be getting married this July, and he and his wife will be residing in St. Louis, Missouri. Mrs. LaDonna Hoffman will be starting the Shinning Star Preschool at Zoar Lutheran Church in Elmwood Park, IL. We pray for God’s richest blessings in their new endeavors.

LUTHERAN UNITY SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CANDY SALE (East & West)
Thank you to all that participated in the Fannie May candy sale! In order to be eligible for prizes, all money must be returned to the school office by Friday May 25. See attached flyer for more info. Proceeds from this sale will be used for technology upgrades in the classrooms at both campuses. The top three sellers will win tickets to Six Flags Great America. Also, if we meet our goal, both campuses will be rewarded with a pizza party the last week of school.

ST. JUDE MATH-A-THON (East & West)
Donations for the St. Jude Math-A-Thon are due this Friday, May 18. Work on those Funbooks! Have fun, improve math skills, and donate to children with serious diseases.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART (East) 
On Friday, May 25, students at the east campus will participate in the Jump Rope for Heart program. This program is designed to promote good student cardiac health through exercise (like jumping rope), and is also designed to raise funds for the American Heart Association. Students will participate in a variety of rope jumping activities, and will finish with a school-wide fruit snack. Students may bring fruit for themselves, and may also bring some fruit to share, if they wish. Permission slip and information sheets for Jump Rope for Heart are included in the Weekly Newsletter envelope. Please return the permission slip to your child’s teacher. This event is a great way to exercise and have fun, and students can earn great premiums when they raise funds for JRFH. We hope that the Lutheran Unity family of schools and congregations will consider sponsoring our students. Let’s jump!

TASTE OF LUSA (East & West)
Please join us as we celebrate our first ever Taste of LUSA! This is an opportunity for all LUSA families and congregations to come together for food, fun and fellowship. It is being held on Saturday May 26, 4 – 8 p.m. at Luther North College Prep, 5700 W Berteau, Chicago. Please see the attached flyer for more information and RSVP.

MEDIEVAL TIMES ROYAL REWARD (PreK thru 6th Grade – East & West)
For those that missed last week’s flyer, all students have a wonderful opportunity to earn a FREE ticket to Medieval Times!  
1.Pick up a folktale, fairytale or biography from our school or get a book from another library (or from home).  
2.Read the book or have it read to you.  
3.Complete the “Read All About It” sheet provided by your teacher.

CHESS CLUB (West)
Congratulations to our chess team for coming in 7th out of 15 schools (5th-8th Division) and 12th out of 22 schools in the (K-4th Division) at the Whitney Young City Tournament. Our final meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 23 in the second grade classroom.  

TRACK & FIELD (East & West)
We sent nine awesome athletes to the State Track Meet last weekend! We thank all of you for coming to watch our athletes and for saying a prayer on their behalf. We did a great job and represented our school well. Many of our athletes had their personal best times and distances and we are proud of their efforts. We are confident we will have even better showing next year!!
We want to honor and thank all ten of our Athletes:  
Erika A. (made it to the Semi-Finals 100m Hurdles); Peter A. (FINISHED 6th in the State 110m Hurdles)
Kiely G. (finished in the top half at the Triple Jump); Joseph H. (Made it to the Semi Finals 110m Hurdles)
Dana J., Taylor M., Jeffrey P., Joseph R., Alana S., and Marcus W.  Great Job!  

Although they did not all come home with a ribbon, they are still the best of the best in all of the Illinois Lutheran Schools and should be congratulated!

MANNA (East & West)

MARKET DAY NEWS (East & West)
Thanks to all the 2nd grade parents who came to help with our Market Day sale this past Saturday! Our next pick up is Saturday, June 9th from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. The June designated helpers are the 5th Grade classroom parents. Order forms need to be turned in to the school/church office on or before Tuesday, June 5th. You may also order online at www.marketday.com before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6th. STURGILL’S FUNDRAISER (East & West)
The Sturgill's are celebrating two years of a successful split-liver transplant. Please support the Sturgill family (Reanna 1st grade, LUSA. Erica, Pre-K Our Savior) transplant fundraiser.

We're hosting a fund-raiser for Roberta Sturgill (nana) and Michelle Bain (donor) June 7, all day for dine-in and carry out at Moretti's in Edison Park and Bartlett. You must mention the fundraiser. A portion of the proceeds will go to Kolvar Transplant Center. CAR WASH FUNDRAISER (East & West)
Cub Scout Pack 3977 will be holding their annual Car Wash Fundraiser on Saturday, June 2nd from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the St. Paul Church parking lot, 5650 N. Canfield. Come by to get your car washed for a free will donation!

SUMMER SMARTIES (East & West)
Mrs. Graf is tutoring again this summer. Students must be currently in Kindergarten through 4th grades. Please see Mrs. Graf if you have any questions.

WILDKATS DAY CAMP (East & West)
W.I.L.D.K.A.T.S is a fun-filled summer program run by St. Paul Church, under the direction of Carolyn Zielinski, for students entering Pre-School (4) through 6th grade. Camp runs from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (with before/after care available from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.) from June 11 through August 10, 2012. Applications for the program are available in the church/school office. Students do not need to be enrolled at Lutheran Unity School; we invite all students in our community to join us this summer and see how much fun WILDKATS is!
